Resting in Christ and Type of Fruit this produces.

Last Week and This Week we went over a kid friendly of the y-diagram.
Over these last two weeks we talked about resting in Christ and the type of fruit this produces.
This Y - diagram is a great resource for parents and children to use when talking about
choices, action and attitudes.
This 10 minute video explains the chart using various Bible verses.

Moms, Are You Mom Enough?

Mom Enough is a new book from Desiring God.  Here is what DG posted on their blog about the book:
Our new book cuts through the nonsense of competitve mothering.  Eight bright women expose the spiritual corruption of it and explore how gospel grace is relevant for the daily trials and worries of motherhood.  In the trenches, these moms have learned to redirect their hope and trust from the shifting sands of popular opinion to the unchanging all-sufficiency of God.
You can read more about the book and how to get free electronic copies and purchase paperback copies at www.desiringgod.org/blog/posts/mom-enough-new-book

Jesus has Power Over Disease & Death

Passage:
Matthew 9:18 –26

Principle:
Jesus has power over death and disease

Prompt:
Ask your child these questions:

  • How did Jesus’ power to heal prove His authority to forgive?
  • Why did the people glorify God after seeing Jesus’ miracles?

Practice:
Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:

  • By praising Jesus For His authority to forgive sin.
  • By thanking God for not remembering sins that He has forgiven.

Memory verse:
2 year olds through kindergarten: Matthew 11:28.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Some things to think about from this week's sermon

Don't forget to pick up a children's sermon note sheet by the check in kiosk!

Tomorrow's message (11/16) is entitled "Redeeming Love" and it is from 1st Samuel 18, 19 and Psalm 59.

Here are some good talking points for you talk through with your kids.

Have you ever been bullied or mistreated by someone?
The amazing good news is that in Christ you can overcome!

The good news is not that you will never experience any bad things in the future.
The good news is that these bad things are not who you are.  They do not define you.

God has a redemptive plan for our good and His glory.

David is a king on the way up.  David was content to wait upon the Lord!
Talk about what does it mean to be content!

Saul is a king on the way down.

God protects and delivers David from Saul’s evil intentions.
David deals with abuse, mistreatment and betrayal of someone he respected and loved.

Psalm 59
How do you deal with abuse, mistreatment and betrayal of someone you love?
David called out to God for deliverance.
David had a spirit of forgiveness.
David meditated on the righteous work and character of God.  What does it mean to meditate?

Teaching your child about a heart for God

It is my prayer that you would be using this series to help you child/children understand what it means to have a heart for God.
Just to remind you that the reason we occasionally have the children in the service with their parents and/or grandparents is because we believe parents are the primary disciple makers in a child's life.
While there are challenges with having children in the service, there are benefits.
  1. Children need to see their parents worshiping the Lord in singing songs and in listening to sermons.  Some of the material in the service may be over the child's head but think about what they are observing in you.
  2. Children need training in how to be actively involved in a worship service.  By actively involved we mean singing passionately, taking notes and listening.  We have the kids in the service only a couple of times but we still believe this time is very important for worship/heart training.
  3. Families have the opportunity to talk about the sermon and ways they can live out and help one another live out the message.
Think about how this Sunday's "Kids in Church" works together with other things we are doing...
  • Some of our Soul Care groups have families, this would be a great week to have everyone together to talk about the sermon.
  • Last week's very familiar story of David and Goliath is a great sermon to talk through with your child.
  • Our parenting class is Shepherding a Child's Heart by Paul Tripp.

Sanctification parenting vs. reputation parenting

Sanctification parenting is primarily concerned with the spiritual growth of your children. You do what you do as a parent with the goal of seeing them become mature believers in Christ.

Reputation parenting is primarily concerned with the spiritual reputation of the parent. You do what you do as a parent with the goal of having others see you as a respectable Christian parent.

EKIDZ and UPWARD opportunities

Here are a couple of people involved in the children and family ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church

Pray for Andrea as she works with the children’s ministry and the disciple makers.
We are always looking for godly men and women, from teenagers to senior saints to help make disciples of the children and families God brings to EBC.
Click HERE for some great, low prep service opportunities on Sunday morning.
Email children@emmanuelbatptist.com for other disciple making opportunities with the children and families of Emmanuel.
Pray for Mindy as she directs UPWARD.
We are looking for coaches, referees and other servants.
We are also looking for more gym time.  There are several possibilities.  Please be praying for this.
If you have any questions email upward@emmanuelbaptist.com
It is exciting to see what God is doing and going to do with these ministries to families in our community.

Family Worship Guide 11.02: Jesus Calms the Storm and Casts Out Demons

Several of the classes did crafts involving "anxiety boats."
These "boats" were not just a fun craft to do in class.
They can be used as a great prayer help for you and your family.
