Missions Emphasis & Kids in Church

(This post focuses more on 1st graders and up)

A couple of things about this Sunday, March 29th.

It is Kids in Church, which we schedule at least once a quarter.  To read more about why we do this, click HERE

It is the last Sunday of our Missions Emphasis Month.  Dale and Karen Marshfield will be here.

It is a Sunday when we are going to recognize our international friends.

Use the time leading up to and in this weekend's service to help grow a passion for missions in you and your kids.
We have several families from our church taking our international friends out to lunch this Sunday.
Think about inviting someone to a meal after church next week.  (Reality check:  I know for some of us the thought of inviting someone into our home for a meal scares us to death)

You can pick up a Sermon Notes for Kids sheet at the EKIDZ information rack or online HERE

Last week the 1st - 3rd graders used 12 resurrection cards to remember key parts of the Resurrection story.  You can check out what we did HERE

UPWARD Sunday... This Sunday.

This Sunday is UPWARD Sunday @ Emmanuel Baptist Church.
You may be thinking to yourself, what is UPWARD Sunday?  We haven’t had anything like this recently.

If you have a church home you are actively involved with plan to be there Sunday.
However, if you don’t have a church home, we would love to have you come to Emmanuel this Sunday.

Here are a couple of points to help you better understand what the day is going to be about…
  • Come Sunday morning as you do on Saturday mornings during the UPWARD seasons.   Coaches will be wearing their UPWARD shirts.  Players are encouraged to wear their UPWARD gear.
  • During the 10:30 am service time, we will have classes for kids up through 5th grade.  Usually the 4th and 5th graders are with their parents during 10:30 service time but this Sunday we changed their meeting time.
  •  There will be several volunteers in our children’s ministry to help with check-in.  For your convenience, you can use the children’s ministry entrance, which is by the EKIDZ sign.
  • Visitors connected with UPWARD will be welcomed by one of our pastors during the service time but you will not be embarrassed.
  • The 10:30 service will be similar to what happens every Sunday morning at EBC.
  • We also have a 9:00 am Bible teaching hour for babies through adults.  This Sunday all of the 4th graders through adults will be in the auditorium.  Starting April 12th, new classes for adults will be starting.  Financial Peace by David Ramsey and Single and Parenting.  You can find out about both of these by going to www.emmanuelbaptist.com/adults and clicking on more info under Bible Teaching Hour.

Thanks for being a part of UPWARD this year.
If there is any way Emmanuel could help you please me know.

Pressing on,
David Rodgers
Pastor of Children/Family Ministry & Soul Care

Great News about Generations of Grace, our Bible curriculum

The Children's Bible curriculum we are using
at Emmanuel Baptist Church is called
Generations of Grace

There are several reasons this curriculum was chosen
Biblically Driven
God-centered
Christ exalting
Family focused/Unified
You can read more about what each of these mean at

After using the curriculum for 3 years
we have come to realize there are some weaknesses.
difficulty of some crafts
lack of full color resources
difficult material for some of the age groups
how to teach the same lesson at 9:00 and 10:30

The revised edition coming this summer will include the following
pictures of completed crafts
sets of full color illustrations
new activities, games and illustration ideas
two age appropriate teaching outlines

You can more about the curriculum at

One of the new parts of the curriculum I am especially excited about
is the Family Devotional

The Family Devotional provides five daily devotionals that correspond with each lesson in the teacher book.
It was created to make children’s ministry what children’s ministry should be—
a way to equip and encourage parents to fulfill their duty to train up their children in the Lord.
Each daily devotional indicates the portion of the passage to be read, provides concise insights into the passage,
and suggests questions and discussion ideas, some simple for young children and
others requiring a lot of thought for older children and adults.
It also includes pictures illustrating the lesson.

Using Talents to Take the Word to the Woldl

Jesus Teaches the Parable of the Talents

During the first 30 seconds Trey talks about Faith's Stewardship month.
It is not Stewardship Emphasis Month for us but you can use this week's lesson
to kick off Missions Emphasis Month.
The Principle for this week is:
God gave believers gifts to faithfully further His kingdom.

Encourage your children and yourself to use your resources to Take the Word to the World!
Money, time, toys and other things can be used by God for His glory.
The 5 minute mark of this video has some great application points.
