What can I talk to my kids about this week?

Do you take time to talk about the Sunday lessons and sermons during the week?
Here are some helps to talk about the kids' lesson and sermon this week.

EKIDZ TAKE HOME SHEET:
Here is this morning EKIDZ take home sheet.
Because the 1st through 5th graders did not have class this week, it would be a great opportunity to about this week's EKIDZ story as a family and/or in your Soul Care group.

Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:
  • By knowing Scriptures so that he can share the   Gospel.
  • By trusting that every event has been decreed by God.

And this week's memory verse is Philippians 4:13.
You can talk about what "all things" means by looking at Philippians 4:12.

SERMON/SOUL CARE NOTES:
This morning Ken Rudolph is preaching and kids 1st grade and up are in the service.

Here some things you can

SERMON REVIEW:  From Ken Rudolph’s sermon on Psalm 46
  1. There will always be the battle over FEAR
  2. There will always be the invitation and invasion of GRACE
  3. There will always be remembrance of past VICTORIES in which we can rest.

SHARING TIME:
What are some fears you have battled and God has seen you through this year?
This could be a great question for families with school-age kids to reflect upon this school.

BIBLE READING:
Read Psalm 37:1-9
Psalm 46 ends with the phrase “Be still” and Ken Rudolph shared with us some thing to remember.
Psalm 37 also tells the reader to “Be still.”
What are some other commands in the first 9 verses of this Psalm?
You could go to www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalm+37%3A1-9&version=ESV&interface=print and print out this passage and have older kids circle the commands or point out to younger kids where the commands are and have them mark the words.

Know that Soul Care note sheets for Sunday sermons can be used with your families not only your Soul Care groups.

How to talk to your kid about sex

"In an oversexed society, it is tempting to believe that the less said, the better for everyone."
"That's not true."
"What will happen is not that your kids will hear less but that you will have allowed everyone except you to shape the content of those conversations."

Here are some practical strategies which are developed more in the booklet:

  • "Get yourself ready to talk about sex."  Sexuality is too important a part of any person's life for you not to learn to have regular, normal conversations about it.
  • "Take your cue from your kids."  If you pull back or look uneasy about these conversations, you will let them know they should never feel comfortable raising that kind of question with you again.
  • "Look for moments of openness."
  • "Create safe spaces."
  • "Initiate intentional conversations."
This booklet "shares a practical, non-threatening model that will connect your child to God's perspective on sex and intimacy."

What to do with kids this Sunday

REMEMBER parents are the primary disciple makers in their child's life.
With that reminder, I want to let you know about this Sunday.

This Sunday Pastor Duke will be preaching from Romans 1:26 - 32.
He will continue his miniseries in Romans entitled "What in the world is wrong with the world?"

Because of the nature of this sermon, we will have an optional class for the 4th and 5th grade during the 10:30 service time this week (05.10) and next week (05.17)

With this in mind, I want to challenge parents to think about
  • Pastor Duke is going to be sharing truth from God's word about sexuality as God intended and as the world has perverted.
  • In our over-sexualized world the chances are very high that your child is hearing about some of these topics at school, in the neighborhood and on TV.
  • Hearing your pastor preach from the Bible in church seems like a good step towards talking to your child about sex as it was intended by God.
  • While the topic is challenging, in preaching to a congregation and in talking with your children, you need to talk with them.  Through this blog we have shared various resources about talking with your child.  You can click HERE for these posts.

Vision, Info & Prayer

Recently we started once month VIP (Vision, Info, Prayer) times for our EKIDZ children's ministry.
The EKIDZ disciple-maker for that month should be at one of these prayer times.
Parents are welcome to join us.
These 5 minute times are designed to remind us what we are doing (Vision), how we are doing it (Info) and who is REALLY doing the work (Prayer)
