Gladys Aylward - China Themed Movie Night

Tonight, we had a China themed movie night!
Starting with Dispatches from the Right No Regrets!  No Retreat!

For the last half of the evening, the kids were able to watch
The Gladys Aylward Story.

Click HERE for a pdf book of Gladys Aylward activity sheets.

Don't forget to pick up a missionary book from the Gathering Area.

One of the quotes from a Chinese leader in the movie is...
"It is not a small woman I am sending!  It is a small woman with a big God!"

This connects well with this mornings lesson.
God used a humble man to lead Israel out of Egypt.
God used a humble woman to lead the orphans out of China.

Missions Movie Night!!!

We want to let you know what is happening for families with kids this upcoming Sunday night!

We will have child care up through kindergarten.

We also have several options for kids 1st through 5th grade.

In the chapel, we are showing the eighth episode of Dispatches from the Front.
The focus of this video is God's work in the country of China.
Click HERE for a review of the book and the video.
It is 72 minutes long.
We want to encourage you to watch at least part of the Dispatches of the Front with your families

Here is a preview!  There is nothing inappropriate in this video.  At the same time it does not have a lot of attention grabbing action.  The video is filled with some amazing scenes, word pictures and Biblical truth.

At the same time the Dispatches from the Front video is going we are going to be showing
one Torchlighter video from 6:00 to 6:35
and another from 6:40 to 7:10.

Whichever option you choose for your child,  we want you to watch the videos with your 1st - 5th graders.
Some Torchlighter activity sheets and discussion guides will be provided.

Here is a preview of this video series.

Amy Carmichael video & last night's IMPACT service

We are going to be using our once a month Sunday night service to promote missions with the Kindergarten through 5th graders.

Here is the trailer for the Amy Carmichael Story video we watched last night.

HERE are some resources to talk with your kids about the Amy Carmichael story.
Below is one of the coloring pages on this page.

After the video, we talked about Romans 8:37,
In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
and here is the "conclusion" of this verse (Romans 8:38, 39)..

Logan Prayer Requests and Praises

Here are some specific prayer requests sent on 01.09.13:

1. That Gradyn (5 1/2) and Jace (4) would trust Jesus as their personal Savior.
2. The boys are on summer break right (hard to believe with all the snow we are hearing about in the States!) and starting school again in February. Pray they can make more friends, we can meet more parents, and they can continue to learn Portuguese. They love school and are doing great with the language.
3. The opportunity for us to begin a English Conversation Group in our new apartment to meet more neighbors.
4. Our church studying Genesis and having visitors coming!

Prayer Requests for the Arthur family!

We rejoice and thank the Lord for the following:
  1. The seminary where I serve as director had lots of debt at the beginning of this year. The Lord provided in unexpected ways and the debt has been reduced from about $200,000 to about $50,000.
  2. Our church plant that is starting up at the seminary has a steady attendance of about 60 after only a year and a half.
  3. In spite of health issues and financial crises, the Lord has faithfully kept us on the field of Brazil for almost 25 years as a family.
Please join us in prayer for the following:
  1. Our son Peter, who graduated from Cedarville while we were on furlough there in Toledo (May, 2011) is living in California and preparing for marriage next July. He is working three jobs and trying to keep his head above water. He also has some health issues, such as problems with his back and some difficulties with concentration due to a concussion in high school.
  2. We are very busy! I am preaching in three different churches in the next three weeks and will teach a masters module in Portuguese starting next Monday (Nov. 26). Please pray for me to be ready for this module. I have never given the course (Biblical Theology of the OT) and have had to start from scratch in my preparation. My job as director of the seminary does not leave me enough time to prepare for my classes as well as I would like (I am teaching 10 credits this semester).
  3. Our daughter Jill is a senior in high school this year and she is also very busy. Besides her classes and her sports at school, she plays violin for our church and is spending lots of time taking tests (ACT, SAT) and trying to decide where to go to college. On Nov. 30, she will play Alice in "Alice in Wonderland" at the school play. She has lots of lines to memorize. Pray for her to do well. She wants to do everything well to please the Lord.

Steve and Rowena Barnes

We are Steve and Rowena Barnes from France. We are thankful to be here. We thank you for praying for us and caring that the lost people here learn that Jesus wants to be their Savior.

PRAISE:  There was a special Sunday barbecue on August 26th  for workers in our church from the nursery through high school to prepare for our fall church program.

Thirty-nine out of fifty people (teachers and helpers) were present to share testimonies of what the Lord has done among the children and youth, giving a word how they have personally been blessed and taught.

The church elders were present to show their support of these ministries and repeat the church’s spiritual goals for our youth. It was very encouraging to Rowena who started this ministry to see she has communicated her burden to others and the work will go on.
PRAY:  On Sunday afternoon, September 16th, our first monthly youth meeting will take place.

Our new team for this school year is Albert and Charity for the junior-highers, and Daryl and Cynthia for the teens. Until we move, my wife and I will be attending, helping, and mentoring these new workers (Albert is the only one with experience for this age group).  Albert and Charity are from Tamil Indian background and Daryl and Cynthia are from Gabon, Africa.  Just think of it—invitations were mailed to 27 middle schoolers and 15 high schoolers. Our theme for the school year is the Christian soldier and one goal is to all learn Ephesians 6:10-20 by heart together.

PRAY:  September 17-21 I will be teaching a 16 hour course at the Bible institute in eastern France close to Luxembourg (a 4 hour drive from Paris). My class will be for first and second year students.

PRAY:  September 23rd we are inviting all the young adults to our house for Sunday dinner. Since our church has grown so much, some of them have never been here to our home. We are happy that we have a good group that wants to grow in Christ and serve Him in ministries at church.

PRAY:  In January 2013  we hope to move from the Paris area and from our wonderful church family.  Until then, about once a month we drive to southern France, (8 hours away), to help a tiny church plant in Fréjus where I am already considered the pastor. The weather is beautiful there, nearly always sunny. There are lots of houses for sale but we must sell the one we have in the Paris suburbs first.  Please pray that a buyer will show up; lots of people are scared to buy since the economy is poor. God’s timing is best…and we are praying to keep our eyes on HIM.
