Equipping the Generations: The Family Together in God’s Presence

Click HERE for this Sunday's EKIDZ sermon notes form.  These will also be available at church Sunday morning.

From The Journal of Discipleship and Family Ministry
http://www.sbts.edu/family/files/2013/04/JDFM-3-1-Noel-Piper.pdf
I would strongly encourage each of you to read the entire article.

Noel Piper writes that one of the greatest stumbling blocks for children in worship is "their parents do not cherish the hour. Children can feel the difference between duty and delight. Therefore, the first and most important job of a parent is to fall in love with the worship of God. You can’t impart what you don’t possess."

Here are some quotes from the blog article:
  • It is hard to overestimate the good influence of families doing valuable things together week in and week out, year in and year out.
  • Parents should be jealous to model for their children the tremendous value they put on reverence in the presence of Almighty God.
  • Not everything children experience has to be put on their level in order to do them good. Some things must be. But not everything.
  • A deep sense of the unknown and the mysterious can rise in the soul of a sensitive child in solemn worship—if his parents are going hard after God themselves.
Some Preparation Tips:
  • Read the scripture passage together (Acts 1:1-8)
  • Two important pre-service preparations:  a pen and notepad (    ) and a trip to the rest room.
Some During the Service Tips:
  • If your child wants a bulletin let him have a bulletin.
  • Everyone needs to sit or stand along with the rest of the congregation
  • "Taking notes" grows up as the child does.  At first he draws pictures of what he hears in the sermon.

BUILDING MORE THAN A BUILDING

The new 100 wing will soon be completed and we are very thankful for the work of the Dotson Company in building the facility.
The classrooms will soon be filled with toys and books and we are very thankful for those who have and will donate money and items to help with this.
BUT we have been talking about BUILDING MORE THAN A BUILDING to help each and every one of us remember that even more than building things we are building into the lives of children.
As a parent of three children, I am thankful for those who have invested time and teaching into my family!
As one of the pastors at EBC, I am thankful for those who have invested finances and hard work into the new construction.
As the pastor of family ministries at EBC, I want to encourage each and every person to be praying for our children's ministry.  Also, know that there are opportunities for each of you to serve.
Everyone can pray for, give to and/or serve with the family ministry of EBC.
