Our Heart an Idol Factory.

"The human mind is, so to speak, a perpetual factory of idols."  Calvin.

This quote is at the heart of todays EKIDZ lesson in 1 Kings 11 is entitled "God Punishes Solomon."

The application points for 03.30's lesson's are "Love the Lord with all your heart.  Obey God in all things.  Look for idols in your heart."

In the chapter and throughout the lesson the children learn that God punished Solomon because Solomon treasured something other than God in his heart.
Solomon's many wives divided his heart and then turned his heart from God.

The links below are some great "Idols of the Heart" resources for parents to use in their own lives.
You could then use them to start conversations with your children about their idols.

This link, http://bradbigney.wordpress.com/idols-of-the-heart-2/, is to three worksheets to help identify the idols of your heart and then repent of them.

What you can do with your family this week,,,

Sorry about not getting resources up.  Several tech problems.

Here are a couple of things you can talk with your kids about..

Difference between
Herod and the people in 12:20-23
And
The church in Antioch in 13:1-3

How can we, as a family, help our church be a gospel centered church?
How can we, as a family, help our church be a sincere church?
How can we, as a family, help our missionaries?

Kids 1st through 3rd grade will be in the Self's Commissioning service this Sunday...

It has been great having Mark, Anahi and Sophia directly involved in the EBC family.

Many of the children have gotten to know them very well.

  • Mark and Anahi helped with Sonshine this past summer.
  • They have shared in children's classes several different times.
  • Some of the kids have gotten to know the Self family even more through the Soul Care ministry.
This Sunday is going to be a very exciting time for our church.
Sending out Mark and Anahi to serve in Argentina.

Because of the nature of the service there are several reasons I believe it will be great to have kids 1st grade and up in the service.
First, the encouragement of the Selfs and their help to the kids has been awesome.   So the kids should have the opportunity to be a part of this commissioning service.
Second, the excitement of EBC sending out a missionary family should be shared with the church family.
Third, the example of people pursuing full time ministry needs to be seen by children.  And it should be seen repeatedly.

Please plan to come and bring your kids this Sunday.
There will be some sermon helps for you and your children on this page tomorrow (Friday).

5 Surefire Ways to Train Your Kid to Use Porn

The author this blog states two important points at the beginning of the article:
  1. The first is, no parent wants their child to become involved in pornography.
  2. Pornography for a man is not primarily about the physicality of a woman.

Here are the five ways:

Singing in Several Different Languages

The 4 year olds through 3rd graders have been doing this song each week of Mission's Emphasis Month.

A great, energetic song that glorifies God, speaks the truth of the Bible and gives the kids an opportunity to hear several different languages.
