Family Worship is not meant to be a polished show for people....

Family worship is meant to be a natural and planned time for your family to get into the word, sing and pray.

In helping the families in our church grow closer to God and one another, I want to give you examples of family worship.

Here are two godly men sharing their own experiences in family worship.

Timothy Paul Jones serves as associate professor of leadership and as associate vice  president at one of the largest seminaries in the world, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Recently he tweeted "Somehow family devotional on Nehemiah rebuilding the wall ended up with 'We but this City On Rock & Roll.'  My children's theology is shot."  @timothywashere
There are many resources on his website www.timothypauljones.com

David Platt pastors The Church at Brook Hills (www.brookhills.org) and is the author of Radical and Follow Me.  In the clip below he explains some specifics of family worship and gives some examples of family worship in the Platt house.  Platt mentions that sometimes his children stump him with questions he cannot answer.  Also the example he gives about singing has been true many times in our family worship time.  To listen to the whole sermon "In the Beginning," click HERE

After seeing these examples and explanations of family worship, please share your stories, good, bad and humorous in the comment section or email children@emmanuelbaptist.com

Seeing What David Saw

We have been talking about God being the Boss and the one who is worthy of our worship.

Here is an online sermon by Alistair Begg that puts the stories of David's life in a different perspective.

One of the messages I recommended to the children's ministry team to listen to is from 1st Samuel 17.  It is entitled Seeing What David Saw

This message will help you get a better perspective of what we want to be teaching in our children's ministry.

A good Bible reading activity this week...

One day, read the 1st Samuel 13 passage from this week.
Then ask the following questions:

  • What was Saul's sin?
  • How did Saul react when he was caught in his sin?
The other day, read the 1st Samuel 15 passage from this week.
Then ask the same two questions.

The third day, read Psalm 51:1 - 12.
Then ask "According to Psalm 51:1 - 12, what should be our reaction when we sin?"

God's Perfect Plans: Devotional journal

God's way is always perfect.  It is impossible to have a better idea than the Creator of the universe!  Still, Israel thought their plan for a king to guide them was better than God's plan to guide them!

Here is a journal for 1st through 5th graders from 01.12.  It connects well with the lessons from 01.12 and 01.19.
You can have your child do this for individual quiet time OR talk through it as a family.
