Grace
Principle:  God never calls you to a task without giving you what you need to do it.  He never sends you without going with you.

"There is nothing more important to consistent, faithful, patient, loving and effective parenting than to understand what God has given you in the grace of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ."  (34)

"Instead of approaching [my children] with self-righteous outrage, I moved toward them as a sinner in need of grace needing to confront a sinner in need of grace." (39)

Calling - A Gospel Parenting Principle

Calling
Principle:  Nothing is more important in your life than being one of God's tools to form a human soul.

"Your church was not designed to replace you, but to assist and equip you in this essential [disciple making] work.  Your government was never designed to replace you, but to protect you as you do this core work.  The school near you will never replace you; at the very best it will support you as you do the work that only you can do.  You could argue that the chief reason God puts parents in children's lives is so that they would know him.  The most important thing that a child could ever learn about is the existence, character and plan of God.  If you know this fact, it will alter the way you understand and interpret every other fact in your life."

THE Most Helpful Parenting Passage in the Bible is...

From Paul Tripp's new book Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family.

If I were to ask you what the best, most practical, most helpful parenting passage in all the Bible was, what would you answer?

Most biblically literate Christian parents would run to Ephesians 6:1–4: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise), "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land." Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." (ESV)

Those are wonderfully helpful verses, but there's another passage that's almost never mentioned in the context of parenting. These words, straight from the mouth of the Messiah, contain everything you need to know and understand in order to experience the rest and courage of heart that fuels good, godly, perseverant parenting.

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20)

The Great Commission? Yes! I cannot think of any directive more appropriate to every Christian parent than this one. Here's why:

Your job as a Christian parent is to do everything within your power, as an instrument in the hands of the Redeemer who has employed you, to woo, encourage, call, and train your children to willingly and joyfully live as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:

By being strong and courageous in serving God.

By memorizing and meditating on God’s Word.

Verses: 

2 year olds through kinder: 2 Corinthians 9:8a

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, 

1^st through 5^th grade:  2 Corinthians 12:9

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Some Kids Almost in Church resources from today!

This Sunday we had a Kids Almost in Church Sunday.

This post has several of the things we did with the 1st through 3rd graders today.
While it was a challenging message for kids to understand, it also is a challenging message for adults.
We used the morning to try to help the kids learn another way to listen when they are in the service.
One of the methods we have used in the past was the ABC's.
Listen for key words that begin with each letter of the alphabet.

Today, we used a different method
using the regular sermon note sheet.
You can use this same method with your kids.

We listened for specific words,  Most are highlighted in the pdf above but not all of them
The connected words promise/covenant/faithful are highlighted in blue.
The connected words God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Christ and Messiah are highlighted in purple.

The big idea was "God is faithful."

Another Kids Almost in Church Sunday!

Much of this post is from a previous post about Kids Almost in Church

Tomorrow is a Kids Almost in Church Sunday.  This is our second one of these Sundays for the 1st through 3rd graders.

What does almost in church mean?
Every Sunday children gather with the Church, the body of believers even if they are not in the auditorium.


But this Sunday is a training time for the kids.
We will be watching the sermon in the back.  I will help the kids learn how to listen and take notes during Pastor Duke's sermon.

You and your family are more than welcome to come back to the children's chapel and watch the sermon with us. 
OR you can have your child sit with you during the service in the auditorium.
Actually, I would strongly encourage you to either 
come back and watch the sermon with your child and the rest of us
OR have your child sit with you in the auditorium.

This will be helpful for your child in his/her active participation in the sermon and for you parenting and discipling. 
We will go over some very practical ways for your child to be actively involved in the sermons.
We will talk about some of the specific points from this upcoming Sunday's message.

1. A major part of our EKIDZ ministry is helping children understand their role in our church.  We don't want to entertain and babysit children until they are a certain age.  We want remind children that if they have been saved by grace they are part of the His church.
2. This Sunday is a great time to begin training them and continue training the others on how to be appropriately and actively involved in a Sunday service.

As usual we will be in the service during the music and announcements.

Know that it is our goal to help you disciple your child or children. 
That is why we do the things we do.
