More Resources to Help Parents Get Ready for Kids in Church

More Resources to Help Parents Get Ready for Kids in Church This Sunday.
Some very specific sermon note information will be available on Friday afternoon.

Before Sunday morning
Parents, listen to the first 12 minutes of THIS MESSAGE by Alistair Begg entitled Four Marks of a Healthy Church pt. 2 and read THIS BLOG POST

Thursday
Begin memorize 1 Timothy 2:5 together as a family
For there is one GOD, and there is one MEDIATOR between God and men, the man Christ JESUS.
You might even want to take a couple of minutes to read through Jeremiah 29, not just Jeremiah 29:11, and ask what are the Israelites to do.

Friday
Over the last several weeks including this upcoming week the kids have learned about
the tabernacle
the sacrifices
the priesthood
Here are some talking points for you.
  • Talk about the tabernacle in the Old Testament and then read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.  Tabernacle was a temporary temple for the Israelites when we were in the wilderness.
  • Talk about what they learned about the sacrifices in the Old Testament and then read Hebrews 9:23-28.
  • Talk about what they think Old Testament priests did and why it was important.  You can find out some of this information for yourself and others at ekidzministry.blogspot.com/2016/06/god-establishes-priesthood.html

Here are some additional talking points from this week's resource sheet...

Title:  God Establishes the Priesthood.

Passage:  Leviticus 9:22—10:7

Principle:  Man needs a mediator to come before God.

Prompt:  Ask your child these questions:
Why did God create the role of a priest?
Did the priests have to obey God’s laws?
What happened to the two priests who disobeyed God’s commands?
  Who is the sinless priest?

Practice: Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:
By trusting only Jesus to bring him to God.
By confessing his sins to God and asking Jesus to help him.
By worshiping God with the right attitudes and actions.

Some very specific sermon note information will be available on Friday afternoon.

3 Important Truths to Remember on the 4th of July - Kids in Church on July 3rd

On July 3rd, kids the 1st through 3rd grade class will be in church.
Pastor Dave is preaching on that Sunday and will be using several different ways to help parents and kids focus during the sermon and discuss the sermon afterwards.

Check back here on Wednesday, June 29, for some of these resources.

Here are a couple of ways you and your family can prepare for the sermon...
  • Sunday & Monday -  Review the June Bible lessons with your children.  If you don't have their take home papers, you can see what the previous lesson were HERE.  You can pick up the summer quarter family worship guide on the racks by the kiosks.
  • Tuesday - Read 1 Timothy 2:1-6 with your children.
  • Wednesday - Talk about what we need to remember on the 4th of July.  Also, check back here for some more helps.
Thanks!

Sonshine the Prodigal Son, the Wise Builder and the Foolish Builder!

Be sure to check back here tonight at 9:30 pm for a summarizing Bible lesson post!

Tuesday night's Bible Lesson was about the Real Treasure.
The passage of scripture, Luke 15:11 – 32, was about the Prodigal Son.
Even more than that it was about the love of the father!

Wednesday night's Bible Lesson was about the Wise Treasure.
The passage of scripture, Luke 6:46 – 49, was about the Wise and Foolish Builders.

As part of a snack time activity 3 sixth grade teams had to create something with limited bricks and limited time.  The winning team is the picture that gets the most likes on facebook.  Find the 6th GRADE BUILDING CONTEST post at www.facebook.com/ebctoledo and pick your favorite picture.

Another Great Opportunity for your child to have a great time this summer is Camp Patmos on Kelley's Island.
This camp provides a lot of water and outdoor fun and solid Bible teaching.
Emmanuel Baptist Church is taking a group of 4th, 5th & 6th graders to Camp Patmos the week of July 18th through 23rd.  For more information go to www.camppatmos.com

Sonshine!!! - Seaquest for Treasure

Three Graphics that Summarize the Sonshine Bible Lessons

Ephesians 2:8 is our theme verse for the week

"For by GRACE you have been saved through faith.
And this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God."

Click HERE for the song Grace by Seeds Family Worship.

The Treasure we are sharing with the kids throughout the week is
the Gift of God,
Jesus Christ, who gives eternal life.

Sunday night's Bible Lesson was on the Hidden Treasure.
The parable (story with a lesson) about the buried treasure and priceless pearl
can be found at Matthew 13:44-46.

Here is a question to ask based on this lesson:
What did the person do in order to get the treasure and the pearl?

Monday night's Bible Lesson was on the Lost Treasure.
The parable about the lost sheep and the lost coin
can be found at Luke 15:1-10

Here are some questions to ask based on this lesson:
Have you ever lost something and then found it?
What did you do when you found it?

In these two parables, why was their great rejoicing?

It contains resources & information about
the Sonshine Carnival, June 18
Sonshine Vacation Bible School, June 19 - 23
Father's Day, June 19

Here is the email...

Just wanted to let you know about four very important opportunities in June as part of our summer kick-off.

First, the Sonshine Carnival is this Saturday, June 18 from 11 a.m to 3 p.m.
Bring you, your family and your friends and neighbors out for a fun time of free inflatables, food and prizes.

Second, Sonshine, our Vacation Bible School program, begins this Sunday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m.  Please note the time change.  It is earlier this year than previous years.  It would be extremely helpful if you could pre-register online HERE
Third, don't forget this Sunday is Father's Day.  At Emmanuel we will honor Fathers with a donation to the Daughter Project.   Check out www.emmanuelbaptist.com/tag/fd4tdp

Fourth, this Sunday the 1st through 3rd graders will be watching the sermon in the children’s chapel.  We use times like this to help these children learn how to listen and take notes.  We want to encourage you to come back and sit with your child during this time.  It provides a great opportunity for you to train your children for the next kids in church Sunday which is July 3rd.  Check out http://ekidzministry.blogspot.com/p/kids-in-church.html for more about helping your child in church!

Lastly, on Sunday, June 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., we're going to have a family fun night at Emmanuel Christian School. Bring your family, your favorite games to hang out and play with other families.

Kids are Almost in Church - June 19

Check www.emmanuelbaptist.com/blog tomorrow to see how days like this help us fulfill our mission.

This Sunday, June 19th, the 1st  through 3rd graders are going to
almost be in Church!

What does almost in church mean?
Every Sunday children gather with the Church, the body of believers even if they are not in the auditorium.
But this Sunday is a training time for the kids.
We will be watching the sermon in the back.  I will help the kids learn how to listen and take notes during Pastor Duke's sermon.
You and your family are more than welcome to come back to the children's chapel and watch the sermon with us.
OR you can have your child sit with you during the service in the auditorium.
Actually, I would strongly encourage you to either
come back and watch the sermon with your child and the rest of us
OR have your child sit with you in the auditorium.

This will be helpful for your child in his/her active participation in the sermon and for you parenting and discipling.
We will go over some very practical ways for your child to be actively involved in the sermons.
We will talk about some of the specific points from this upcoming Sunday's message.

There are three reasons we are doing the Kids Almost in Church Sunday.
  1. A major part of our EKIDZ ministry is helping children understand their role in our church.  We don't want to entertain and babysit children until they are a certain age.  We want remind children that if they have been saved by grace they are part of the His church.
  2. At the beginning of June the kindergartners moved into the 1st - 3rd grade class.  This Sunday is a great time to begin training them and continue training the others on how to be appropriately and actively involved in a Sunday service.
  3. I am scheduled to preach on July 3rd. This will be a kids in church Sunday and I am preparing the message with the idea of helping children and parents listen to and talk about the sermon.  This Sunday will help them be more prepared for the Kids in Church Sunday on July 3rd.
As usual we will be in the service during the music and announcements.

Know that it is our goal to help you disciple your child or children.
That is why we do the things we do.

ONE ADDITIONAL NOTE:
Next Sunday night, June 26, is Free Family Fun Night at Emmanuel Christian School.
This is a night to come down to the school, bring your favorite family game or games (We are bringing Kan Jam) and hang out with other families.
This is not a drop your child off event.
This is a spend time with your family and other families playing games event.
The gym will be open and weather permitting some grassy areas for all kinds of game that you want to bring and play.

A Greater & More Perfect Tent!

If you have been doing Family Devotions based on this past Sunday's EKIDZ lesson and take home sheet, Hebrews 9 is a great way to end the week.

A God-ordained, man-made tent was a shadow of what God ordained through the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.”
Hebrews 9:11-12 ESV

God, Thank you so much for what you have done for us through and in Jesus Christ.

Dads, write in your Bible and Demonstrate Generosity!

Dads, write in your Bible!
This article,
www.desiringgod.org/articles/dads-write-in-your-bible, challenges dads to write in their Bible with the purpose of sharing this Bible with their children.  I recently started doing this and it has been great thinking about Bible verses I want them to remind them of.
“We read the Bible not just for ourselves, but for our families, for our friends, for our community. We know that God doesn’t transform his people into dead-ends, but into rivers of living water. Deciding on a route and digging in on that resolve has more in view than our own souls. This is especially true for dads.”
Dads, demonstrate generosity and provide opportunities for your children to demonstrate generosity!
I want to suggest to very practical, very specific ways you can do this this.
Demonstrate generosity by donating to the The Daughter Project this Father’s Day (Father’s Day for The Daughter Project – #fd4tdp).  HERE is a post about talking to your children about Human Trafficking.  At Emmanuel Baptist Church, we are continuing our Father’s Day for the Daughter Project gift.  A donation to the Daughter will be made in honor of the fathers at EBC.
Provide opportunities to demonstrate generosity by helping your kids find ways to earn money that they will give to this year’s special Sonshine offering.  Don’t just give them money to drop in the bucket.  Make them work for what they intend to give.  This INTENTIONAL GIVING is so much more helpful than begging for a few coins before they head into church.
Remember parents you are the primary disciple maker in your child’s life.

Summer Verses and God's Unconquerable Love

I really want to encourage you to think about how you can connect what the kids are learning with what you are learning.
I not only want to encourage you to do this, I want to give you a practical way to do it.

Pastor Duke is getting back into his Romans  series.

We are in Romans 8.  So read that chapter.  Meditate on the truths in that chapter.

The title of this upcoming series of messages is the Unconquerable Love of Christ!  So remember how He showed His love for us and savor the new life that we have because of this unconquerable love.  Remember how Romans 8 ends.  Take time to memorize this verse.

Now here is the connection with our EKIDZ verses for this summer.
The verses focus on perseverance in the midst of trouble.
  • Ephesians 6:10, 11.  These verses remind us that if you are a child of God, you are strong because God is strong and mighty.
  • Ephesians 6:13.  This verse reminds us that in Christ we stand firm in the midst of trouble.
  • 1 Timothy 2:5.  This verse reminds us that God sent his Son to be THE one and only mediator between man and God.
  • Philippians 1:6.  This verse reminds us that God will finish what He is doing in the life of His children.
  • James 1:12.  This verse reminds us that we need to & are able to stand firm under trials because of what God did in Christ.
  • Matthew 11:28-30.  These verses remind us that those who are weary will find rest in the Lord.
Because of God's provision in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, His Unconquerable Love
we are strong

we stand firm in trouble
we have a mediator
we are God's handiwork
we find rest in the Lord.

Talk to your kids about what you are learning about God's Unconquerable Love in Christ & Ask what they are learning about how to persevere in Christ.

PROMOTION SUNDAY!!

We are in June and school summer breaks have started or are starting very soon.
Our EKIDZ practice is to move kids up to the next age group the FIRST Sunday in June, which is this Sunday.

We also recognize that some children might need a little more of an adjustment period.
Please feel free to use these next two Sundays (June 5 & 12) to help your child adjust to this transition, if you want to.
It is our desire for this transition to go well for you and your child.   If that takes a few weeks, that’s ok.

If you have any questions, please be sure to contact Diane Smith or Pastor Dave.

Here are a couple of important reminders about EKIDZ:
  • 4th and 5th graders are usually in the 10:30 service with their families.  There are some special occasions when we have a 10:30 meeting for these students.
  • 1st - 3rd graders are in the music portion of the service with their class and then return to their room for their own lesson.  A great Sunday dinner conversation might be to  connect one of the songs sung in the service with a Biblical truth
  • Also, 2 or 3 times a quarter the 1st through 3rd graders are in the service with their family.  This is a great opportunity for you to help train your child to listen to sermons, pray and sing. We post “Kids In Church” resources on the blog which you can visit by clicking here.
  • Occasionally it is necessary to combine classes.  When this happens the 2 & 3 years old class meet together and the Pre-K & Kindergarten class meet together.  If this happens, notes will be posted on the classroom doors.

We want to help parents disciple their children.   Two very specific ways you can do this are:
TAKING TIME AT HOME to talk about this week’s lesson and connect Biblical truths to life.
SERVING AT CHURCH in your child’s class or another class.  This helps you better understand what your child is learning about and it also helps EBC serve the children and families God gives us to minister to.

Our ekidzministry.com page contains lesson and parenting resources.  Be sure to check it out!

God's plans reveal who God is!! (Exodus 25-31)

Look on the right for the link to the Summer Quarter Teaching schedule.

GOD ORDAINS THE TABERNACLE!

So what does ORDAIN mean?

Merriam-Webster define it as "to establish or order by appointment, decree, or law."
God established His dwelling place, the tabernacle, to reveal the truth about who HE is and what are relationship with us is like.
Understand this word ORDAIN and decide how you want to communicate it becauseTHREE of the next SIX lessons deal with God ORDAINING the tabernacle, the sacrificial system and the Day of Atonement.
God revealed His plans for this building, these laws and this special day to help the people understand who He is, who they are and what God did, was doing and was going to do for them.

Help the children understand the layout of the tabernacle
BUT EVEN MORE THAN THAT
Help them understand the purpose of the tabernacle.

Three years ago, when we taught this lesson some teachers put a pattern on the classroom floor.
Along with this visual the teachers also gave some specific directions on how the children were to maneuver through the pattern.

Something to remember as you are preparing and sharing...
  • Each piece of furniture...
    • Show the sinner's need
    • Symbolized God's temporary provision
    • pointed to a greater fulfillment in the coming Messiah.
Here is a infographic on the message of the tabernacle.  To download your own digital copy click HERE

And below is the week's Teaching Help Video from Faith Church.
Don't mind the date on the video.
