God Forgives David 02.26 - Teaching Challenging Stories to Kids!
Here is a Gospel-thought to remember as you prepare to teach.
David was a murdering adulterer and God loved him and pursued.
David was a murdering adulterer and God loved him and pursued.
Now you probably would not use that sentence to summarize this lesson for children but it is the truth.
Bible heroes weren’t loved because they were good; they were good because they were loved.

Vengeance is mine says the Lord!!
This week (February 19) is Kids In Church Sunday.
For more general information about why we do Kids In Church Sundays, click HERE
Check back later this weekend for more tips related to this Sunday's message and the kids.
The message is from Romans 12:17-21.
Let me make this very "family" practical for you...
This week's passage:
17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Connection points between this week's message and recent EKIDZ lessons.
Over the last couple of weeks the kids have been talking about how David respected King Saul even though David had been anointed king by Samuel.
David patiently waited on God.
Here are some questions to ask...

- Why did David treat King Saul the way he did?
- How did David model Romans 12:17-19?

Self - Esteem: Looking Up Instead of Looking Inside
Last month, Mom's Matter was going to cover the topic of self-esteem
but the meeting was canceled because of bad weather.
This month the moms will receive a copy of the booklet Self Esteem.
I wanted to share a couple of things I was planning to share in January.
Leslie Vernick "Instead of looking to God to tell us who we are, as fallen human beings we seek external sources to tell us who we are. When we do that, instead of feeling secure and loved, we become self-concious, self-focused, self-centered, and self-absorbed." (p. 7)
The booklet goes on to address two big ideas:
The six false voices we allow to define our value and worth
The one way we are truly changed.
As part of my message I was going to share a personal experience in which God used His Word to change my thinking from self-focused to God-focused.
Here are two blog posts where I shared this time.
Part 1: God spoke to me today!
Part 2: Blessed by a forgotten Bible reading!
Now I want to remind parents of an important very practical point.
We need to model this God-focused thinking to our children AND we need to help them think this way.
Here is a quote and some Bible verses to help parents do this and teach this...
"How God thinks of us is not only more important [than how we think of him], but infinitely more important." C.S. Lewis
Psalm 8:3-6
Psalm 139
Romans 5:6-8
Ephesians 1:4-5
Here is the bottom line.
All of us are worshippers.
Who are you worshipping?
Who are you training your children to worship?

UPWARD - Game Day Stars
These are the game day stars and what they mean:
- The BLUE star represents EFFORT: What does it mean to show effort? It means working hard to try your best at all times.
- The GOLD star represents SPORTSMANSHIP: What does it mean to show sportsmanship? It means treating the people you play with and against the same way you want to be treated. You show respect for yourself, your teammates, opponents, the referees and the coach. You play fair and follow the rules.
- The GRAY star represents OFFENSE: What should you do when you play offense? The offense is responsible for scoring points. This means doing your best while trying to move the ball forward together as a team to score a basket.
- The RED star represents DEFENSE: What should you do when you play defense? The defense is responsible for preventing points from being scored. This requires staying with the player you are guarding and moving your feet to stay in good position to prevent a basket.
- The WHITE star represents CHRISTLIKENESS: What does it mean to be Christlike? Being Christlike means to do your best to imitate Jesus in every way – through words, attitude and actions. It means loving others and following God’s Word in the Bible; choosing God over the temptations in the world around you.
Some other UPWARD information.
