Kid's in Church Music

Here is one of the songs from this weekend's service "The Glories of Calvary"

One of the ways you can begin preparing for Sunday is listening to this song with your child and explain what is about.

More songs from Sunday can be found at blog.emmanuelbaptist.com

You don't need to be a good parent!

Desperate Parents Make the Best Parents by Brad Bigney is from the Biblical Counseling Training Conference hosted by Faith Church in Lafayette, Indiana.

His basic idea is  "parenting is not difficult it is impossible.  So you will need God more than you will need to be a good parent."

"Good kids are not being produced by the same system.  God is the number one any child begins to follow God.  It is not Stuart Scott.  It is not Bill Gothard.  It is not homeschool.  It is not classical Christian school."

You can purchase this session for a limited time at the cost of $0.50

KIDS IN CHURCH!!! This Sunday, February 1st.

This Sunday Pastor Duke is going to be reviewing our "A Heart for God" series.
As his notes are made available I will put some sermon helps for kids on this site.
Also, Pastor Andy has been posting the songs for the weekend services.
You will want to check back to watch those with your kids.

I want to share a couple of quotes from the book Parenting in the Pew to help you understand two things.

1.  You are not alone
2.  You need to teach and prepare your children and yourself for Sunday.

Here are some general thoughts to consider:
"Why is it that children who refuse to nap all week nod off before the preacher is three sentences into the sermon?  Any child can tell you that it takes a lot of energy to 'sit still and be quiet' during church.  Most children will testify, too, that coloring in all the o's in the bulletin is harder than it seems.  Especially with all the interruptions for hymns, creeds and offerings."  (p. 54)
"Paying attention in worship is foundational to training children in the pew.  And giving attention to our children during this time is essential.  It is very important that parents and children sit together during worship." (63)
"The purpose of parenting in the pew is to train a child to worship, not to be quiet."   (63)
 Here are some practical ideas:

  1. Have your child use the bathroom right before the service.
  2. You might need to talk quietly to your child to help them worship.  "Training children to worship does not always enhance our own experience of being before the Lord, especially at first.  On a feeling level, the experience of worship may seem impoverished by the demands of parenting in the pew.  The number of times children must be helped to concentrate, pay attention and enter into the worship service is almost beyond counting.  The effort can be exhausting.  And it can be pleasing to God."
  3. Encourage your children to sing
A very important thing to remember is that YOUR TIME in the service provide A LIVING EXAMPLE to YOUR EXAMPLE.

UPWARD Devotion

This week's devotional was on the virtue JOY!

Finding a way to be happy, even when things don’t go your way.

The scripture Verse is "Always be joyful because you belong to the Lord. I will say it again. Be joyful."  Philippians 4:4 (NIrV)

Bottom Line: I can have joy because God sent his Son.

Here is a great song to remind of why we can be Joyful.

5 Ways to Teach Your Kids.

In Emmanuel Baptist Church's children's ministry itis our prayer that parents would realize, understand and embrace their essential role in discipling their children.  We want to help families grow in this area.

This past week a blog post entitled "5 Simple Ways to Teach Your Kids Theology" was shared by several prominent church leaders.

"It is our job as parents to teach our children theology. It can be intimidating, but it doesn’t require a seminary degree. You can help your kids know and love Jesus more."

Here are the five ways and how we are trying to help families do each of them.
  1. "Read the Bible."  We provide parents with the Bible reading from each week's lesson.  Use this resource throughout the week.
  2. "Read other books together."  On the blog there a recommendations for different books
  3. "Pray intentionally."  On the weekly take home sheets we list a missionary and ministry to be praying for.  You can expand on these but know they provide a solid start.
  4. "Talk about entertainment."  While we haven't been doing this as much as we should, the Media/Internet link on ekidzministry.blogspot.com shows different resources and reviews.
  5. "Model it"  This is why we have the 1st through 3rd graders in the service.  Witnessing their parents and other adults worshiping the LORD together is a powerful teaching tool
You can read more about each of these 5 ways at  http://thewardrobedoor.com/2015/01/5-simple-ways-teach-kids-theology.html

Piggy Banks & Discipleship!

This week in our EKIDZ ministry we looked at what a disciple is in Matthew 16:13-17, 21-27.

The cost of following Jesus is denying oneself and following Him.
A disciple lives knowing that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

We tried to accommodate every carpool request and practice time request.
This is a challenge for different reasons incomplete information on the application,
conflicting information on different applications or
one of our mistakes in placement or data entry.

The reason some of the 3rd - 5th grade boys teams have more than 10 kids
is because of carpool links and time preferences
and
our need to have an even number of teams so that every team would have an opponent on game day.
From past experience, increasing the number of teams sometimes makes
filling a team on game day a challenge.
We have two 3rd - 5th grade girls teams.
This will help keep the games more balanced,
which is in response to the surveys from last year.
